Remember, Remember the Third Thursday of November

Not quite as poetic as Guy Fawkes day, but, the third Thursday of every November sees the release of Beaujolais Nouveau (as well as the race on every group authored wine blog to get the first post on the wine) to the world.
First, a little backstory. I have a fond place in my heart for […]

Sing a song of six pièce…

Just so you know, a pièce is a Burgundian wine barrel capable of storing between 215 and 228 liters of wine.
But anyhoo.
I was debating what to write about this go around and, frankly, I’m a little wined out, despite the fact that we had two new bottles in the past 72 hours. Or maybe that […]

Goats in the Glass, Goats in the Grass

Ask anyone who knows me and they’ll tell you that I’m a fan of the pun.
Well, they might not. It’s a deep, dark secret of mine. Even more secret than that whole hobo killing thing…
Which I guess isn’t as secret now as it used to be.
One of my favorite wines… or, at least, a wine […]

Open Sesame!

Back in the old days, when it came to opening a bottle of wine, I used one of those picnic basket style cork screws. You know the kind, little tube, cork screw has a plastic knob on top with a hole in it that the tube fits through. Heck, I bet you have three in […]

And Now for Something Completely Different… Beer

I know, I know… This is a wine blog. It should be about wine. But wait… It is about wine, kinda. Bear with me… Before the explanatory bit, let’s just gaze lovingly.

Isn’t that lovely?
Before I talk about how this could possibly be wine related, let’s talk a little bit about the folks who made the […]

When Do You Give Up on a Winery?

I am always a sucker for a pretty cover, whether it is on a book or on a wine. Growing up, prowling the shelves at the library (which is really easy when you work there shelving books), I’d pull a book off the shelf and, based on a quick look at the cover, decide if […]

Let’s put the Oh! in Organic! And Rousanne! And Marsanne..err.. o.

Ok, two out of three ain’t that bad. Unless, of course, you’re counting failures and not successes. In which case, you’re pretty bad.
But that’s a bit tangential, which, I’m sure, if you’ve read me before, you know is par for the course.
And, if you’ve read me before, you know my hatred for white wines, a […]

Cel-e-brate good time - WooHoo!

Sometimes you just gotta celebrate something.
Maybe it is a birth, maybe it is an award, maybe it is a death (if, y’know, you’re one to celebrate the death of someone), maybe it is just all your friends who are strewn about the world finally ending up in the same town at the same time.
But what […]

Your what hurts?

No word of a lie[1], here’s the conversation from my wine shop:
Me: What would you recommend for a grin ache?
Store person: Alleve.
Me: No, really, I have to write a post about it. I’d like something local…
Store person stares at me.
Girlfriend laughs at me.
Store person (to girlfriend): Is he drunk? Are you ok? Should I call […]

Wine for a Cause

So, sure, normally, the cause I’m supporting when I’m having some wine is the ‘I really wanna relax’ cause, and, occasionally, the ‘I could stand to be not sober’ cause.
But, as I was digging around the wine aisle, I found a number of wines that supported a bigger cause and, aside from giving me that […]

John Eddy

As the new guy, I stand in slight fear and trepidation at having to accurate summarize who I am in what is commonly known as a Bio, especially since I was more of a physics and chemistry geek. So, a little bit about me. I'm diabetic who has discovered that he's lucky enough not to have wine affect my blood sugar all that much. I'm snarky, punny, sarcastic and generally a little... odd. I like long walks along the beach and... oh, sorry, wrong bio. I wear a utilikilt, pay no favorites to type of libations (tho I will tend to avoid white wines that aren't dessert types), and try to live a green life along with the love of my heart. Current hobbies: Entering (and losing) writing contests, playing Xbox and collecting gamerpoints, photography and job hunting.
