Riedel offers a special limited edition glass to benefit Living Beyond Breast Cancer

Riedel Pink Vinum Rose GlassesSince we are doing Rosé wines this month, I thought it would be good to mention this offer from Riedel as it contributes to a very good cause and will enhance our Rosé tasting later this month.

I recently attended a tasting in Boston hosted by Maximillian Riedel at the Federalist Restaurant in Boston. It was a fascinating session on why wine tastes and smells different in different styles of glassware.

You can see my complete post on the tasting on my blog at KensWineGuide.com. What I want to cover here is that fact that Riedel has now introduced its third limited edition glass to benefit Living Beyond Breast Cancer.

This year the glass is a Pink Vinum Rosé Glass with its soft pink stem and clear bowl as shown above. It will be available from May 2007 just in time for the 2007 rosé wine season. Maximilian Riedel, CEO of Riedel Crystal of America said that “This year we decided to create a rosé glass as the interest in and consumption of rosé wine has risen and is being enjoyed from the start of spring through Thanksgiving.”

The Pink Vinum Rosé glass is a machine-blown crystal glass based exclusively on the characteristics of the grape varietals used to create rosé wines. The shape and size of the glass creates a balanced interaction between fruit, minerality, and acidity, while de-emphasising the evidence of alcohol. The glass will be sold in sets of two for $49.80, attractively packaged as a pair in a black box adorned by the pink ribbon synonymous with this important cause. Riedel will donate 15% of the proceeds from the sale of this glass to support those dealing with the devastating diagnosis of breast cancer and life beyond.

The first two glasses in the series, the Pink “O” wine tumbler (2005) and the Pink “O” Champagne glass (2006), sold out in record time, providing a donation of over $100,000 to Living Beyond Breast Cancer in the U.S.

Visit Riedel.com to find a retailer near you that carries this set of glasses. Enjoy the glass and some Rosé this summer knowing you’re supported a good cause while fully enhancing your Rosé wine experience.

This sounds a fantastic addition to the collection of Riedel. I already have the O series but will search these ones out for sure. Check out our post on a Vancouver restaurant that also supports Breast Cancer research (will be posted later today) at http://blanc-de-noir.blogspot.com.

Cheers and good health.
