Sauvignon Blanc is one of our favorite white wines. We went to the Boston Wine Expo this year looking for some gems that we could recommend to our readers on www.KensWineGuide.com.
I always start the day in the New Zealand section because the Sauvignon Blancs from there are so refreshing. The first one I tried was the 2006 Babich $10. This wine was tangy and refreshing and we scored it Very Good. The big winner from New Zealand and overall was the 2006 Spy Valley $18. This wine was very elegant and not overdone. This wine has most of what you want in a Sauvignon Blanc. We scored this wine Very Good , which translates to a low 90’s score. This was our favorite Sauvignon Blanc at the Expo.
Another that caught our attention was the Source Napa 2004 “Gamble Ranch” Sauvignon Blanc, $24. This well balanced wine had good fruit flavors and was quite rich. This was a Chardonnay drinkers Sauvignon Blanc. It is also certified organic. It is a tad pricey for Sauvignon Blanc but organic farming comes at a price.
Overall, Sauvignon Blanc in our opinion is one of the most versatile grape wines out there. It can be made in many different styles and is a great food wine. We strongly encourage you to try many different Sauvignon Blancs from around the world. The best part is that they are a great deal as well. Enjoy - Ken
