Zinfandel Heritage Vineyard
The Zinfandel Advocates and Producers is an association devoted to the promotion of zinfandel and education regarding American Zinfandel. As part of this mission, ZAP promotes research regarding the origins and history of the Zinfandel grape, in part through the . It is located in the likely location of Oakville, in the Napa Valley.
The Heritage Vineyard “is an unusual and unprecedented collection of rare and famous Zinfandel vine cuttings grown throughout California.” The cultivation of this unique collection of grapes is overseen by a mix of scientists, farmers, artists, and historians. Through its Heritage Vineyard, ZAP hopes to ”preserve the special qualities of the old vines for future generations.”
To share the task of creating wine at the Heritage Vineyard, a different ZAP producer (there are over 300 producers that are members of ZAP) takes on the task each year. Involvement by UC Davis helps ensure that the genetic heritage of the Zinfandel grape is preserved.
