Zinfandel Around The Wine Blogs

Ridge Zinfandel LabelI can’t remember the last time I drank a Zinfandel*; surprising as I use to class it as one of my favourite varieties. A little research was necessary to see ‘what is out there’ and what excites my fellow wine bloggers.

My internet pal Tim of Winecast has given this grape a little more attention than me, even going so far as selecting the Neal Family Vineyards, Zinfandel 2003 for his Thanksgiving meal. Other notes on his blog cover Turley Cellars, Zinfandel, “Old Vines” 2001 and the D-Cubed Cellars, Zinfandel, Napa Valley 2002.

The Ravenswood 2002 Monte Rosso Zinfandel features on Lenndevours which is at least a brand that is available in the UK, unlike the 2003 Puccioni “Old Vine” Zinfandel, Dry Creek Valley, Sonoma (from Vinography) which I have never seen.

I get a little confused by the various bottlings from Ridge. A bottle of the Ridge California Zinfandel Paso Robles 2001 was brought back to the UK by my friend John, this is one label that isn’t available here; not sure about their Pagani Ranch Zinfandel label but at least I can rely on the review by Beau at Basic Juice - ‘yum’ is the short answer!

* It would appear that it was back in September 2005, a brief note on Spittoon details the Barra Estate Vineyards Zinfandel, 2003, Mendocino, California; received a good rating mind!

Andrew,
Thank you for mentioning Puccioni Vineyards Old Vine Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel. We are not distributed in the UK because we are still very small - about 250 cases. Hopefully someday we will be distributed in the UK. We are a small hand crafted producer - we have been farming the property since 1904 and had a winery on the property in the 20’s and 30’s. We have just started up the winery again. We were the last ones to use a mule commercially in the Dry Creek Valley - until 1968. All the Best!
