Greetings and Gewürztraminer
Hello everyone. I guess I’m the newest contributor to Wine Sediments. My name’s Mike, and I’m the proprietor of a blog called . My shtick is to find decent, interesting wine under $15 a bottle. I hope I can be a good resource for some of you.
As I get underway here — I’ll start by sharing one of my recent discoveries: Gewürztraminer. At $13-14, this is a classic “new world” gewurz from Sonoma Valley– done in a style that’s rather dry but extremely fruity. There’s a nice floral and apple nose. It’s medium bodied with a nice crisp acidity and some pear flavors - but definitely not sweet. The finish is very long and peppery, with some more of that tasty pear flavor hanging around a long time.
As with most Gewürztraminer, this is an exceptionally food-friendly wine - not only with the traditional Thai/Indian pairing, but with real wine-killers like smoked salmon and asparagus. It’s definitely worth checking out.
Looking forward to sharing further such grape discoveries with everyone.
