Screwpull 3-in-1 Corkscrew Review
Without extolling my poetic titling talents, I was recently asked to review the new Screwpull corkscrew - the 3 In One!
I’ll be honest, when I got this in the mail, I was underwhelmed. Knowing that Screwpull constructs some of the best high end corkscrews out there, the plastic container and very light opener seemed a bit of a let down. All that comes with the corkscrew is the 3 in One opener and instructions, in a plastic case.
The “3″ are:
- It’s a Corkscrew
- It’s a Foilcutter
- It’s a Bottle Opener
The foilcutter and bottle opener are folded pocket knife-like in the sides of the opener. The bottle opener is straightforward and easy to use, but the foilcutter, though serrated to help, was difficult to use to cut the foil at first. I think, however, that this is due to me being used to a different type of foil cutter. Once I got the hang of it, it worked fairly well (though I still prefer the type that fits over the bottle top).
Opening a bottle looked like it would be tricky. Unlike most corkscrews, this one comes apart in 2 pieces; the worm and handle are one part, and the part that fits over the bottle is another. It was simple enough to put the worm through the hole in the corkscrew, but took a second to get it start into the cork. I just had to push down enough to start the worm into the cork, though, and things went fine from there.
Once the worm starts into the cork, things get very easy. Continuing to turn, the worm goes as far into the cork as allowed by the main part of the corkscrew. From that point, the turning of the worm causes the cork to come up out of the bottle, lodged in the corkscrew base. Gripping the base allows for easy removal of the cork, which then pops right out of the base.

All in all, here are my conclusions:
- I don’t much care for the foilcutter, but the compact size of the opener means that it would very easy to take anywhere I needed (picnics, travel, etc.), and it does a fine job for times when I don’t want to carry another foilcutter.
- It works just fine as a bottle opener, which means that I don’t have to carry another item around for that, either.
- As a corkscrew, it was, hands down, one of the easiest to use that I’ve ever tried. It’s less cumbersome than a lever type corkscrew and easier to store. It comes in its own case so it’s easy to pick up to take with me. After an initial reaction of thinking it looked cheap, I completely changed my mind. This is a quality corkscrew for an easily reachable price point ($19.95 US retail). I would recommend this to anyone looking for a good corkscrew. It’s not as impressive as some, but ease of use means this is a corkscrew I will go back to again and again.
