Chocolate and Food with Wine: Decanter Tastings

Decanter Fine Wine EncounterIf you are lucky enough to be in the UK on the 18/19th November you should make a b-line to the Landmark Hotel and the Decanter Fine Wine Encounter.

Here one of Britain’s top chefs and a chocolate expert will be hosting two masterclasses.

The first, hosted by Michelin-starred chef, Raymond Blanc is a Wine and Food matching class where six different wines (three French and three American) will be matched with six seasonal dishes. Different flavour components (salt, acidity, sweetness and bitterness) will be used to show how wines can be enhanced or ruined by food. The Decanter website hints at the quality of the wines to be shown ’something great from Margaux, and some great Californians possibly Opus One.’

Roberto Bava is hosting the second session - Wine and Chocolate. You may recognise the name as Roberto is from the family-owned Bava winery in Piedmont. He is also the president of the Italian Compagnia del Cioccolato and plans to “destroy the sacred assumption that there is no wine that goes with chocolate”.

Specifics are vague but ‘For the masterclass we’ll prepare a rare hand-made Giandujotto from Turin, the famous hazelnut praline.’ with wine suggested as Vin Santo, Austrian Eiswine and other Moscatos.

The Raymond Blanc tasting is 80 per person (Saturday 18th November 11:30am - 13:00pm) and the chocolate tasting 45 per person (Saturday 18th November 3:00pm - 4:30pm). Tickets sell out fast for these events.
